Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that premium downloadable content is possible on the Wii.
The Xbox 360 has opened the gates to premium game content (Oblivion and GRAW are prime examples), and the PlayStation 3 is already confirmed to be following the same path. The Wii on the other hand, being the shining light that encompasses the gaming ideal, surely won't succumb to micro-transaction peer pressure - wrong.
Speaking to Game Informer magazine, Fils-Aime said: "If our licensee partners want to go in that direction [premium downloadable content], it's certainly possible in our system." Fils-Aime also took the opportunity to reaffirm Nintendo's plans for downloadable content. "If you've gotten to a particular part in a game, we could push content out to you, so you get to battle a new boss," he said. "Maybe you get a new artefact; maybe you get a new weapon."

Too bad Sakurai said there won't be any DLC.

But where would the DLC be DLed to? I mean there is no harddrive, and the memory cards are really small. Considering that an extra song on GH3 is ~80mb i dont see DLC being very likely on the wii. Unless they come out with a Wii Premium system (with a Harddrive) which simply put; isnt going to happen.

Am I the only one who has thought of releasing extra content in USB sticks that plug into the drive at the back of the Wii, or am I just missing some incredibly important technical problem? (I probably am :P)
