Free-to-play action game Warframe will be released for PS4 at launch and will remain a console exclusive for three months, Digital Extremes has announced, suggesting an Xbox One version will be released early in 2014.

“With how the industry is evolving, this really is the Player Generation,” said Steve Sinclair, creative director at Digital Extremes. “Games are reaching players hands in so many different ways now and Sony gets it, which is why we are bringing Warframe exclusively to the PS4 first. There’s no reason not to download Warframe on day 1 if you’re an action game lover – it’s free!”

Asked for clarification on what the exclusivity means, a spokesperson for the game told VideoGamer.com: “At present Warframe is already available to play on PC via www.playwarframe.com – but will be exclusive to PS4 on console for three months following its launch in November. Warframe is not currently announced for any other console formats.”

Whilst not stated, it seems pretty obvious that an Xbox One version will launch early in 2014.

Digital Extremes also revealed second-screen functionality via an Android and iOS App called Warframe Nexus. This companion app will allow players to perform in-game tasks, whilst also delivering real-time game info while away from the PS4.

PS4 launches in the UK on November 29 priced £349.
