There will be 'subtle' graphical differences between all versions of Need For Speed: Rivals - including the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions, Ghost Games has confirmed.

"All of the different consoles will look subtly different," Rivals' creative director Craig Sullivan told earlier this week. "The graphics on PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, they all look subtly different. They just do."

But will those 'subtle differences' extend to a variance in resolution?

"I think you need to ask the tech guys that," Sullivan says. "I'm the creative director, I can't get into the technical stuff. The honest answer is, the game will look different on different consoles. Whether or not that's good or bad or someone thinks [one particular version is] better, you'll just have to see when the game is out and you're playing stuff alongside each other." went hands-on with both the PC and PlayStation 4 versions earlier this week, with the latter running at a smooth 30FPS.

The Xbox One version is not yet thought to have been shown.

Sullivan's comments follow those from Ghost boss Marcus Nilsson earlier this year, who suggested that one next-gen version will look better than the other.

"What we're seeing with the consoles are actually that they are a little bit more powerful than we thought for a really long time – especially one of them, but I'm not going to tell you which one," Nilsson said.

"And that makes me really happy. But in reality, I think we're going to have both those consoles pretty much on parity – maybe one sticking up a little bit. And I think that one will look as good as the PC."

Though unconfirmed, it's assumed that Nilsson may be referring to the PS4 version due to the console's faster GDDR5 memory.

Need For Speed: Rivals launches on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 22. A PlayStation 4 version follows on November 29.

If someone's going to be a tease, don't give them the space and attention VG. Sullivan forgot to say "tee-hee-hee", by the way.

Great PR stunt. Let's get people arguing which version is best, we won't tell them even when the game comes out, so they'll still be talking about the game for ages.

"I'm the creative director, I can't get into the technical stuff", reads like "I have been told to keep my mouth shut".

Also, 30fps can bugger off.
