A closed alpha for Battlefield 1 is due to begin this week, according to a report by GameSpot.

A reference to the unannounced multiplayer test was made in a preview published by the site on Sunday, where it discussed the demo on display at last week’s E3.

“And I’ve only spent an hour in the maps that will be available in the game’s closed alpha next week,” the previewer says, “so I can’t say whether this unpredictability will become rote as I play more of the multiplayer shooter. But I can say that, from my brief time with the game, I came away excited for what feels like a return to form for the series.”

EA has yet to announce a closed alpha for Battlefield 1 or reveal how players will be able to get involved. It has, however, confirmed that a beta test is due to take place ahead of the game’s launch this October, with fans who sign up to the Battlefield Insider service offered early access.

Battlefield 1 launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 21.
