Xbox One won’t suffer from reliability issues, Microsoft Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer has told Edge magazine.

The Red Ring of Death was a major issue for Microsoft in the early days of the Xbox 360, with the platform holder forced to offer extended warranties to customers as a result of an unacceptable failure rate.

However, it’s these issues which have given the Xbox One team the knowledge to create a much more reliable box.

“The previous Xbox was Trinity [what we know as the Xbox 360 Slim] and our success rate on Trinity was very high,” said Spencer. “We learned a ton from the 360 launch and we took care of our customers with the extended warranty, but I think Trinity is telling.

“Xbox One is built by the same Trinity team with the same learning that went from 360 into Trinity, and I’m confident in the quality of the new box.”

It’s essential that Microsoft gets the Xbox One’s reliability spot on as any sign of issues will be scrutinised by both the press and gaming communities.

Would reliability issues put you off buying an Xbox One?
