A new virtual reality Star Wars: The Force Awakens experience is launching for iOS and Android – via Google Cardboard VR – Disney and Google have announced.

Launching December 2, the new virtual reality experience has been designed in collaboration with Verizon and promises the “first-of-its-kind serialised Google Cardboard Virtual Reality (VR) experience that combines a compelling story, which ties directly into the opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with the very latest cutting-edge Virtual Reality technology”.

ILMxLAB, a laboratory for immersive entertainment from Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, created the Virtual Reality content.

You’ll be able to access the VR experience in the official Star Wars app available on both iOS and Android devices.

In addition, Awaken the Force Within, a new global program which began yesterday, asks fans to log onto Google.com/starwars and make a choice to be on the dark side or the light side. Their Google apps will then transform to reflect the path they choose.

A host of Star Wars experiences have been developed for Android Wear Watches, Google Calendar, Chrome, Chromecast, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Now, Waze, and YouTube with added features for fans to discover on their Inbox by Gmail, Google Translate, and Google Search.
