wii u black -

Online retailer ShopTo has pinned a £279.99 recommended retail price on Wii U.

The retailer listed the system for pre-order last night, placing a 'TBC' release date on its product page.

Both black and white versions of the Wii U are available to pre-order, each costing £279.99.

Games are also available to pre-order. According to the retailer, they'll carry an RRP of £39.99.

A price and release date for the Wii U has yet to be confirmed by Nintendo.

Nintendo doesn't typically set retail prices for its hardware, instead letting retailers set their own price.

The tactic led to a price war on the Nintendo 3DS during the run-up to launch last March.

Wii U is due to release globally this 'holiday'.

Wii U on it's own will be about £250 at retail, online around £235 up to £249. Bundles? Near the £300 estimate for online and over at retail. I have pre-ordered both Black & White Wii U consoles at Shopto. I cannot see both colours releasing, but I have them secured anyway. I shall be putting down a deposit at GAME for the Wii U, as its best to secure the damn thing before it does another launch of not getting one anywhere. I never had that bad luck with the Wii. I got my pre-order in very early, and I cannot wait for it!

I personally believe it will sell like hot-cakes. A while back when I was talking to someone at GAME, they said a lot of people have been registering their interest for the console. Everyday people asking if they are taking pre-orders for the Wii U, so it is very encouraging for GAME, but also the appeal of the Wii U.

360 Premium Bundle retailed at £279.99 here, which included a mini-remote, headset, 20GB hard drive, and a copy of Hexic HD on it... if I remember correctly!

If true thats a pretty good pricepoint. More or less the same price as the 360 when it launched in 2005 I think.

I'd also say that sounds about the right price point for launch. That controller can't be cheap to produce.

Will be watching Amazon as they seem do do some great launch deals on hardware at the moment.

I can see that pricepoint being about right...

...

I can also see supermarket getting it down to £250 as an incentive.

It won't retail above £249.

Pre-ordered the black one, but I'll probably change that to a high street retailer near launch when I know where I'm living.

It's not a ridiculous price but I was hoping for it to be around £189 base price. as a bundle wit 2 games I would pay that much 279 though. I bought a wii with 3 games wii sports n 2 controllers and nunchucks at Xmas time the year of launch from game for £279 that was a fair price in my opinion plus I got the last one in meadowhall too lol but if I want a game when I buy the Wii U it's going to cost £319, so I hope the same happens with price wars again and a better price or deal emerges which no doubt will do, I'll be waiting a few months for the price drop otherwise.

If the starting price is £279 then that is already £20 less then I thought it would be. Seeing as it is very likely that the Wii U will get a global release November 19th (like the wii and gamecube before it), retailers will be very willing to make bundles and lower prices for the holiday season. They will want to shift as many as possible.

I'll wait till an official price is announced or will pre-oder mid October otherwise. Retailer will fight for the best price anyway so you can see another £20 coming of that price point.

EDIT: considering that a Wii mote and nunckuck will probably be in the box with console from the start as well, does make this prediction a tiny bit more likely.
