Over 2 billion hours have been spent playing multiplayer games on Xbox LIVE

Equivalent to 237,405 years of non-stop play, reckons Microsoft.

Xbox LIVE users have spent over 2 billion hours playing multiplayer games over the online service, Microsoft has revealed.

A total of 2,081,054,696 hours have been racked up by users playing multiplayer games over Xbox LIVE since the service went live in November 2002, with a further 603,549,497 hours spent using entertainment apps, including Netflix, Sky and BBC iPlayer.

The figures exclude the amount of time players have spent playing single-player games or simply being logged into the service.

In addition, Microsoft says that 122,265,266 friendships have been formed across Xbox LIVE.

Xbox LIVE celebrated its 10th anniversary last week, during which people spent more time on Xbox LIVE than any other week in the service's history. 442 million hours were spent on the service following the release of Halo 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

To celebrate, Microsoft sent some of Xbox LIVE's longest serving members exclusively-designed Xbox 360 consoles. Did you get one?

According to my stats I've played over 220 hours online! A good chunk will be in Minecraft, but... I can't think where the rest went! Unless it counts being in a Party...?

pretty sure my figures are wrong too, even though they tell me I've spent 63 hours playing multiplayer and 11 on entertainment.

I would be a 10 year member had MS not cancelled my original account permanently when I let it lapse more than 90 days. I had moved into a listed building and was unable to get a phone line there, because we were on the 4th floor, so I just didn't renew. But, because there was a card attached to the old account, I was told they are unable to reactivate it, even though the card has long since expired. (And the account that it was attached to has been closed.)

I got an email from XBox Rewards which told me I had spent 2 hours playing multiplayer in the last year. I think their figures may be wrong...

I didn't get one :( But in my defense I would have been a Live member for 10 years, but 3 of those years I let the subscription lapse because I was waiting for my XBoxes to be returned from the repair centre.

I kid. I ordered my 3rd 360 yesterday. I wouldn't have done so if the service wasn't so good and now fingers crossed my next 5 years of Live are going to be trouble free. I know that sounds absolutely crazy to anyone that doesn't own Microsoft product, but I'm at 160-something XBox 360 games and counting, it's a serious investment.
