A brand new Sonic The Hedgehog game is coming in 2017, SEGA has reportedly confirmed.
As reported by ]Gematsu, the new game was announced by Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka during a 25th anniversary event in Tokyo, Japan, with further details expected to be revealed at next month’s anniversary party in San Diego.
SEGA has previously told fans to expect “the exclusive first look at the future of Sonic” during next month’s event, although some had been expecting the new game to release later this year, rather than 2017. There is one new Sonic game coming this year, of course: Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice, a Nintendo 3DS platformer due out this September.
Sonic’s 25th Anniversary Party begins at 2am BST on Saturday, July 23, and is expected to be broadcast live on Twitch.
