First-party games released by Microsoft during “the Scorpio time frame” will all run at a native 4K resolution on Microsoft’s new console, publishing manager Shannon Loftis has said.

That means that games due to release next Christmas and beyond will all run at native 4K, although Microsoft has yet to say what they might be. I’d expect Forza Motorsport 7 to be one of the main ones.

“Any games we’re making that we’re launching in the Scorpio time frame, we’re making sure they can natively render at 4K,” Loftis explained to USA Today. It isn’t yet known whether Microsoft also has plans to update existing Xbox One games to run on Scorpio at native 4K.

Project Scorpio is the codename of Microsoft’s new 6 TFLOP console, which is due to release in holiday 2017. The console will remain compatible with all Xbox One games and accessories, and is expected to provide a significant boost to visuals over the existing Xbox One.

Further details on the console have yet to be announced.
