iphone 4 -

An Avian Securities note released to Business Insider claims the iPhone 5 won't begin production until September, meaning a release is likely at the end of 2011 or in early 2012.

The information is said to come via a tip-off by "a key component supplier" Apple is using for the iPhone 5.

The specs of the new phone aren't known. Avian also reports of rumours pointing to a lower-spec and lower cost iPhone.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

All previous iPhone models have been introduced in June or July, which had led to earlier speculation of a summer reveal this year. A winter launch would certainly go against the Apple convention.

We could see the launch of a cheaper model in the summer, with a higher spec iPhone successor hitting in the winter.

It's ok Steg, you only need a phone if you have friends to ring on it. ;)

Seriously, though, the reports of the iPhone 5 (or 4S as some people think it will be labeled) coming in September or later than billed have been doing the rounds since last year. The only way we'll know for sure is when Apple do their usual reveal at launch events, probably in June.

Weren't there rumours of an iPhone mini sort of thing? That could be what the lower specced SKU is, and I'd wager on that being released this holiday, and the proper iPhone 5 being launched early next year as usual.

I'm lucky I get a phone with a colour screen on my contract so there will be no iPhone 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 for me.

Yeah duude, everyone has an iPhone so obviously there must be something wrong with it. It's better to go with the phone no one else uses because it's cooler.

I don't use phones so I'll just spend my money on something useful like video games instead.

My contract has just expired on my Blackberry Storm 2 (which is a poo phone) I thought it ran out in November which obviously would be pretty good timing for the Iphone 5.
I might just get an Iphone 4 now then.
For lucky existing customers of 02 you can now trade in your old phone and sign up for a 12 month contract and a free phone.
Nobody does 12 month contracts anymore which really annoys me.

My contract for my HTC Desire runs out in July 2012. I'd like to think I'd just stick with it as it's a damn good phone, but I know I'll be sucked in by the magicy-magicy of something newer. I'm not loyal to phone manufacturers so the iPhone 5 would definitely be worth considering. Only problem is the fact that the world and his missus have an iPhone. Obviously only 13 people in the world have an HTC.

There are already low spec iPhones out there though? They're called the iPhone 3G.

Anyway, this timing works out perfectly with my contract expiery in Feb 2012 so YAY!
