xbox live -

Beginning this autumn there will be a new way to earn Rewards based on your Achievements, Xbox LIVE Rewards has announced.

A tweet earlier this afternoon said: "We've hit 50,000 followers, which means it's time for an announcement! Coming Fall: a new way to earn Rewards based on your Achievements!"

No further information was given, but given Xbox LIVE Rewards offers users free Microsoft Points for completing set objectives, the suggestion is that gaining Achievements in games will be rewarded with Microsoft Points. Analysis

Finally rewarding Achievement junkies would win Microsoft some major brownie points amongst the hardcore gaming crowd.

@CheekyLee gaining achievements isn't hard work when your just playing through a game and they pop up but as a completionist I try and get every achievement in every game I play, that becomes hard work when you spend hours just to get that one 5G achievement that requires doing a crap load of meaningless tasks, even more so when you only get a couple of hours a week to play games, but I'm an achievement hoarder and I love it, every time I hear the noise of an achievement it makes me happy and if I was also rewarded for that with either a pointless avatar t shirt or Microsoft points I would be even happier. Call me sad but... well yeah I am sad who cares.

I got Minecraft Free from Raptr rewards. Seems a good enough reward to me :P

EDIT: Just got The Maw, R-Type Dimensions and a free month of GOLD thanks to altaranga's heads up. All through raptr.

I see a lot of distaste against UPlay - but I rather enjoyed the idea behind it. Themes and bonus in-game content, unlocked by actually playing a title. It is nice to see 'Theme Unlocked' or 'Avatar Award Unlocked', even if I would never use them, included in a title. Little incentives like that really do add to the perception of value. But as these systems are already in place, I suspect it will likely be something very different... :-/

Raptr do this already although none of the rewards I've earned so far have been worth redeeming (30% off Logitech peripherals, xp boosts for games I don't play etc).

Ideally for me, Achievements will be linked to MS points, so lots of gaming is rewarded with the possibility of even more gaming. I can envisage something along the lines of Microsoft saying to Ubisoft "Make 400 MS Points available in Watch Dogs for players to collect, and we'll make them publisher specific so those points can only be spent on Ubisoft product on the Marketplace". Good for everyone?

I can envisage problems too, though. Ubisoft already have their own UPlay cross-content publisher exclusive points system.

Maybe Microsoft are thinking of something completely unrelated to MS Points as rewards though, have to wait and see.

Hard work? Unless it is playing through something like Bloodforge, or enduring the unfun that is Mass Effect 3, it isn't exactly hard work. No doubt the actual achievements will all be on MS published titles, and require Kinect. MS rarely give you something for nothing.

Finally, It's about time our hard work was rewarded with more than just a number next to a G. I was expecting Xbox Live rewards to do this when it was first announced but instead only gives free points for surveys and renewing your live.
