Mirror’s Edge developer DICE Studio has revealed that the PS3 version of the upcoming Parkour-inspired FPS won’t be displayed in 1080p resolution.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at Sony’s recent PlayStation Day event in London, DICE’s general manager Sean Decker said that while gamers can expect “crisp, clear texture resolutions” in certain situations both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game will be displayed in the high definition minimum of 720p.

While we weren’t expecting the PS3 version of Mirror’s Edge to end up in 1080p, we had harboured some hope that the game, which looks like it will end up being a graphical showcase for the system (check the brand new gameplay trailer out), might end up displaying in the maximum resolution Sony’s console can handle. A number of high profile retail PS3 games have been developed in 1080p, including Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Virtua Tennis 3, and we want to see more.

Decker said: “It’s more about in certain situations you’re going to see very crisp, clear texture resolutions there and, again, this is more for the tech-file, somebody like me who’s sitting up there and looking at every single little detail and saying, OK what’s the difference between this one and this one, putting them side by side.”

Mirror’s Edge is scheduled for release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
