In-game voice chat has been improved substantially for Xbox One, Microsoft has claimed, and will “in many cases” be “clearer than talking on a phone”.

The claims were made during a new blog post on Xbox Wire discussing the Xbox One’s new controller, and is likely linked to the console’s Skype integration.

“The data transfer rate between the controller and console has been improved, allowing for higher fidelity audio in communication headsets,” reads the post. “In-game chat over Xbox Live, according to the team, will be in many cases clearer than talking on a phone.”

It isn’t yet clear whether Xbox One will include a headset in the box. Rumour has it, voice communication will be encouraged through Kinect.

As well as announcing improved chat, Microsoft also revealed that players will be able to “preserve battery life” by connecting the Xbox One controller to their console via USB.

But while it’s assumed, it isn’t yet clear whether players will be able to charge their controller via mini-USB as well.

Xbox One launches later this year.
