It’s been a troubled few months for Microsoft, all starting from an uninspired worldwide debut for the Xbox 360 on MTV in May. The console had a proper unveiling at E3 in the same month, but games early in development and the PlayStation 3 hype machine combined to give the industry giant a few headaches.

Reported hardware shortages and no word on definite launch titles gave gamers cause for concern in the last few weeks, but with Microsoft confirming it’s big three titles for day one, along with big games from Sega, EA, Activision, Ubisoft and Take-Two, things looked a little better.

On the stroke of midnight on November 22 thousands of people (many who had queued for hours) were able to get their hands on the console and finally see if the months of waiting were worth it. We’ll bring you sales figures as soon as they’re officially released, but the vast majority of machines are expected to be sold on day one, with those without a pre-order struggling to take one home.

We Europeans must wait ten days for the Xbox 360’s launch, but expect similar midnight openings and quite possibly some outraged people left wanting in the wake of severe shortages.
