Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed the price range for the new low-scale games that will appear on the Wii’s Virtual Console. Speaking at a marketing conference Iwata said, “We’d like people to play new, low-scale games for ¥500 yen or ¥1000 yen.” This equates to approximately $4.50 and $8.99.

However, there was no mention of price points for Nintendo’s back catalogue titles from the NES, SNES, and N64. The price point for new titles is, however, inline with that of Xbox Live Arcade titles which currently cost gamers $5 to $12.50 per title.

In fitting with the short, but sweet games that Iwata wants to see on the Virtual Console, load times for the games will also be kept to a minimum; the goal is to stay under three seconds for the start-up time.
