Sony plans to release a PlayStation Suite certified Android 3.0 tablet in September 2011, reports Engadget.

Two independent sources have told the gadget website that the tablet, referred to by its ‘S1’ codename, features a 9.4 inch 1,280 x 800 resolution capacitive touch panel and a curved design.

The wrapped design – akin to a magazine being folded back on itself to reveal a single page only – is said to make one handed operation more comfortable for the user by shifting the centre of gravity to the edge, making the iPad sized tablet feel lighter than its rivals.

The tablet is said to be focussed on Sony’s Qriocity service which offers music, ebooks and videos on demand. Then there’s gaming thanks to PlayStation Suite certification – expect the S1 to come pre-loaded with PSone games.

A Tegra 2 processor will keep everything moving at a nippy pace, and users will have access to front and rear-facing cameras, a USB-A port and physical volume and power buttons.

Engadget has been told that a WiFi version of the S1 is expected to launch in September priced $599 – some $100 more than the iPad.
