Speaking to CNET, Sony has revealed that the goal of reducing the cost of PSP development tools was to attract more developers to the platform, and while this will mainly see more games, applications will also have a place.

“One thing we did announce at E3 was a significant reduction in the price of development tools for PSP,” said Sony’s Al De Leon. “The goal with that is to enable all sorts of developers to be able to develop content for the PSP. It will be mostly games, but there’s certainly an opportunity to look at some non-gaming applications.”

The PSP isn’t totally new to apps. Sony has released GPS software, it’s possible to make Skype calls, and you can shoot and create home movies.
