Relief for those of you with pre-orders from the States as Sony have finally stepped in to allay fears of a PSP shortage during the week of the US launch. Having previously announced that a million units would be manufactured for March 24th, the Japanese giant had never specifically confirmed that number would actually be on the shelves. Many believed that the actual number available to retailers could be as low as 400,000 units with the rest stuck in transit – mirroring the small scale Japanese launch of the product in December. Sony have now confirmed that the million units definitely refers to the number that will be on sale on the day of launch, however unlikely that may sound.

The delayed European launch will certainly help Sony achieve their goal but many are puzzled at just how they’re going to manage to have that many units available when there have been such problems with the launch of the system in the past. One thing’s for sure, where Sony launches are concerned, nothing is certain except that generating news column inches is as important to them as actually having any products to sell.
