SEGA have put their faith in a new UK based development studio by giving them some of their most treasured IP to play with on the next generation of gaming machines. The studio will be working on new versions of games such as Crazy Taxi and SEGA Rally and the publishing giant are keen to point out that these will be entirely new games rather than lazy ports. Speaking in the trade magazine, MCV head of senior product development Guy Wilday said: “The studio will concentrate on innovative new iterations of the existing franchises and on the development of new game IP, not ports of existing franchises.”

Racing Studio as the team are currently known, are looking for premises and advertising for jobs and it seems likely that somewhere in the Midlands will be chosen to aid with recruitment. “Locating the studio in the centre of the country is the ideal positioning to attract the best development talent from both studios in the south and north of England” noted Wilday.

The prospect of a next-gen SEGA Rally has me happy enough to avoid insulting someone for such an obvious statement today.
