With Natal, Microsoft’s controller-free technology, due out later this year, the gaming world expects a raft of motion-sensing announcements at the E3 trade show in June.

One Natal game, however, has already been outed.

It’s called River Rush, and it’s a two-player kayaking game in which players steer a boat by stepping left and right.

The game, which rekindles memories of Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort, was revealed by filmmaker James Gunn, who was invited to play Natal at a special event hosted by Microsoft.

According to Gunn’s website, River Rush is “a game where you stand side by side in a river raft, so it’s two people playing at once.

“To move right, you have to step right; to move left, you have to step left. As you rush down right rapids, you have to jump up and slap floating stars in the air – the whole raft jumps up every time you do”.

There’s more on Gunn’s blog, including talk of Natal-enabled teabagging, but of particular interest is this: “[Mike] Bayman told me there were boxing and football and other Natal games coming out…”

All eyes will be on E3 and Microsoft’s special Natal media briefing. We’ll be there, and we can’t wait.
