Some investigative journalism form IGN Revolution has revealed what are thought to be the tech specs for the Nintendo Revolution. Nintendo has said that it has no plans to reveal the specs of its latest console, but it appears developers are more than happy to reveal its inner most secrets.

Developers have clarified to IGN that the Revolution will include 104MB of memory, not including the accessible 512MBs of Flash RAM or the Hollywood GPU’s 3MB of on-board memory. How useful the Flash RAM is to developers is currently unknown. According to in-house documentation the Revolution’s Broadway CPU is an extension of the IBM developed Gekko CPU used in the GameCube and the Hollywood GPU is also said to be an extension of the GameCube’s Flipper GPU.

No exact clock rates or specs have been disclosed but it has been said by an IGN source that: “Basically, take a GameCube, double the clock rate of the CPU and GPU and you’re done.” IGN passed this information onto another developer who claimed that double may be somewhat higher than the actual performance.

The CPU is the same as Gekko with one and a half to two times the performance and improved caching,” said the IGN source. “Our guys experimented with it and think they’ll be able to get about twice the performance as GameCube.

Apparently the Revolution will use new media capable of storing 4.7GBs on a single layer and 8.5GBs when dual layered. These specs sound suspiciously close to that of DVD5 and DVD9 discs, but given the small size of the Revolution console we assume it will be using some new proprietary media. As for a retail price of the Revolution, developers are in agreement that it should retail at $149 or lower, with one IGN source claiming a ridiculously low $99 retail price would not be out of the question.
