A document obtained by Kotaku indicates that SOCOM developer Slant Six is working on a new Resident Evil title.

The game is named Resident Evil: Raccoon City. No further information is given.

While Capcom has previously turned to external studios to work on titles in the Resident Evil franchise, they have always kept development inside Japan. Working with Slant Six would see the zombie franchise taking residence in Vancouver.

Slant Six states on its website that the studio is currently working on “an amazing new project” in conjunction with a “new publishing partner on a world class franchise.” Furthermore, several former and current staff list a “multiplayer action game” for PS3 and Xbox 360 on their LinkedIn profiles.

Capcom has already moved the development of Dead Rising to Vancouver-based Blue Castle Games and has used external studio GRIN on Bionic Commando, whilst recently having announced Ninja Theory as the team behind the Devil May Cry reboot.

There’s no question that Resident Evil is one of Capcom’s most important properties, so shipping it off to a studio with a tactical shooter background doesn’t sound all that likely. However, the same doubts would have applied to Blue Castle, which prior to Dead Rising 2 had worked on baseball games.
