The PlayStation 4 will surpass half a million units sold in Japan this week, but momentum for the system appears to be slowing, according to the latest data published by Media Create.

PS4 sales for the week ended March 30 fell to 23,327, down from 30,201 the week prior. This took total sales for the console in Japan to 493,338 since launch on February 22.

All other platforms recorded a sales increase week-on-week, with the 3DS coming out on top with 64,632 units. This can be largely attributed to a sales surge in the final week before the Japanese tax rate increase, but it’s unclear why PS4 didn’t also benefit.

The only PS4 game to make the Japanese Top 20 was Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes which dropped 87 per cent to only 12,374 copies, bringing its total to 104,277. The PS3 version also fell away, selling 38,617 copies and increasing its total to 158,232 units.
