Sony has made a big deal about the high definition capabilities of the PlayStation 3, and in particular it’s ability to output in 1080p. In order to achieve high definition resolutions the PS3 will need to be hooked up to a HD capable display using either a component cable or an HDMI cable – neither of which come bundled with the console (what you get instead is a bog-standard composite lead).
Sony will be selling the necessary cables separately though, and is charging $49.99 for an official HDMI cable – around $40 more than the cheapest available HDMI cable you can find by shopping around a bit. It’s also worth noting that the PS2 component cable will work just fine with the PS3.
Sony has also announced that the Sixaxis will retail for $49.99, complete with USB cable for charging. You’ll be able to pick up a Blu-Ray remote in December for $24.99 and a PS2/PSone memory card adapter will set you back $14.99.
