Variety reports that Disney’s live action adaptation of Ubisoft’s video game, Prince of Persia, is to begin shooting in Morocco in June.

The movie is to be directed by Mike Newell, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing. Fans of the video games will also be pleased to hear that Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner has penned the script with Jeffrey Nachmanoff (“The Day After Tomorrow”).

The movie will also shoot in the UK’s Pinewood Studios, with a release currently set for June 16 2009 (according to IMDB).

Ubisoft is developing a new Prince of Persia title, although currently the project remains very secretive.
