The Pokemon Company’s CEO appears to have all but confirmed rumours claiming that Nintendo’s upcoming NX console is a hybrid home/handheld device.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Tsunekazu Ishihara revealed that “the NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a handheld device,” before confirming that the company “will make games for the NX”.

Rumours suggesting that the NX is a hybrid home/handheld console have been floating around for years, although this is the first time anyone has officially commented on its concept.

Earlier this summer it was reported that the NX is a portable system with removable controllers that could also dock to a home unit to output to a TV. It’s also believed to use cartridges similar to the Nintendo 3DS rather than optical discs.

Nintendo NX is due to go on sale in March 2017, with the first official details expected later this year. Rumours point to an October reveal.
