Futuristic racer Redout is heading to Steam next Friday, September 2, developer 34BigThings has announced.

The high-speed racer promises to be “the fastest game ever made”, putting players behind the wheel of blisteringly-fast anti-gravity ships as they race across a “dystopian… semi-abandoned Earth”.

The inspiration behind the game should be obvious, with 34BigThings saying that Redout is a tribute to “old racing monsters” like WipEout, F-Zero and Rollcage.

“[Redout] is designed to be an uncompromising, fast, tough and satisfying driving experience, soaked in that vertigo that stands at the core of the arcade racing genre,” says the developer. “The floating system and driving models are based on physics: each turn, slope, hard braking, acceleration, each turn and twist of the track will apply a unique force to the ship.”

The game will retail for £26.99, but is currently available to pre-order from the Humble Bundle store for £21.59.

PS4 and Xbox One versions are also in development. Last we heard, they were due to release later this year. For a closer look at what to expect, check out the launch trailer below.
