YouTuber Spawn Wave has taken apart the Joy-Con controllers and identified a probable reason for the apparent connectivity issues with the left controller.
The Joy-Con tear down reveals the right controller has a wireless antenna attached via a cable, whereas the left controller’s antenna is built into the circuit board. This in itself isn’t necessarily an issue, but the inability to move the antenna away from a metal plate could well be a big problem.
Check the video below to see for yourself. You can tune in from around 20:30 for the antenna stuff.
Spawn Wave has managed to extend the antenna in the left controller, resulting in a more reliable connection up to 40 feet. He’ll be posting a video of the mod soon.
Its still not perfect, but way better than before. The left Joycon now out ranges my right joycon.

If all this proves to be correct Nintendo could be facing a pretty large early adopter backlash, possibly even a product recall.
