The only way to get hold of the impressive-looking Modern Warfare Remastered is to pick up a copy of the Infinite Warfare Legacy, Legacy Pro or Digital Deluxe Editions, a move which has angered many Call of Duty fans.
However, the situation could be about to get a whole lot more hostile after a message appeared on the Modern Warfare Remastered website, indicating you’ll need to retain your copy of Infinite Warfare should you wish to keep playing the remaster.
The relevant section in the note below is in bold.
“At launch, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare® Remastered will contain only 10 MP maps from the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game. Additional MP maps will be made available by 12/31/2016. Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game download (game disc must be inserted to play Modern Warfare Remastered). Internet connection required. For more information, please visit www.callofduty.com/MWR_FAQ.”
An updated FAQ has also pointed to the game disc being required.
PlayStation 4: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game digital download that will be included in the Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition and Legacy Pro Edition on PlayStation 4. The digital download is redeemed via a voucher code on an insert in the box. The Infinite Warfare game disc must be inserted to play Modern Warfare Remastered. Internet connection is required.
Xbox One: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is included on the Infinite Warfare Xbox One disc (no voucher code required) in the Legacy Edition and Legacy Pro Edition of Infinite Warfare. Before Modern Warfare Remastered can be played, an additional download is required. The game disc must be inserted to play Modern Warfare Remastered. Internet connection is required.
We’ve contacted Activision for clarification, but it now seems clear that anyone thinking of buying the retail Legacy Edition and selling on the copy of Infinite Warfare but retaining Modern Warfare Remastered is out of luck.
Obviously the digital editions aren’t affected as you can’t sell out digital editions.
PS4 gamers buying either of the digital editions will receive Modern Warfare on October 5, 30 days ahead of the official release on November 4.
Modern Warfare Remastered will also include the game’s original 16 multiplayer maps, 10 coming at launch and six more via a free update later in the year.
Pre-order Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare now ahead of its November 4 release(?)
