As you may have heard, this month marks the tenth anniversary of blocky mega-phenomenon Minecraft, and with Microsoft teasing mysterious plans, developer Mojang has also released one of its own, releasing a version of the original 2009 Minecraft client entirely playable within your browser.
Making the announcement on the Minecraft blog, this version of Minecraft is very stripped back from the one we know today, with only relatively basic functions, no enemies, 32 blocks and a minimal interface so if you're used to the creature comforts from the many, many updates since release it may be a little tricky to navigate, but it does also manage to cram in some nifty multiplayer functionality just by sharing a link via your clipboard.
It's both a lovely bit of nostalgia and a pretty cool demonstration on how far technology has come in the decade since the game's original release. It's also a great way to potentially play a cheeky bit of the game at work (providing they've not blacklisted the domain) – not that we'd condone such a thing. Go right here if you'd like a play around in Minecraft Classic yourself.
