A special ‘Toybox’ demo of Yooka-Laylee is now available to Kickstarter backers who pledged at least £20 toward the project.

The PC-only demo lets players explore an open playground discovering secrets and trying out the duo’s moves ahead of the game’s release early next year. If you pledged £20 or more, check your emails for a key.

Those who pledged £35 or more, meanwhile, can gain access to Toybox Plus, an enhanced version of the Toybox “which includes combat gameplay and a new area to explore”. If you’re eligible, you can download that by registering the second code supplied in your email.

“As promised in our campaign, the Toybox isn’t a traditional ‘demo’, but a self-contained, spoiler-free sandbox designed to give Yooka-Laylee backers a taste of the platforming to come in the final game,” said developer Playtonic. “There are moves to try, custom-built props to play with, secrets to discover and yes, shiny collectibles to hunt out and we’ve even included a never-before-seen NPC to chatter with, but it’s only a small sample of the finished production – and visually it’s incomparable.”

It continued: “In particular, the environments you see in the final version of Yooka-Laylee will be far more vast and detailed than the intentionally-simple playground you’ll be able to jump around in this week. There are also far more moves, animations and general polish included in the main game.”

Yooka-Laylee is a 3D platformer that is said to be a spiritual successor to popular N64 series Banjo-Kazooie. The full game is due to launch in Q1 2017 on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and PC.
