The development team behind the Yakuza franchise is already beavering away on an unannounced new IP for consoles.

This is in addition to the next Yakuza game, which will not feature Kazuma Kiryu after his story was wrapped up in the excellent, jaw-breaking sequel Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.

Sega Sammy head honcho Haruki Satomi confirmed the news during a chinwag with the latest issue of Famitsu magazine (via DS), where he revealed that the Yakuza team are working on a mystery new IP. No further details were provided, although we imagine it’s in the very early stages of development.

Still, Yakuza fans have plenty to tuck into this year. Aside from the aforementioned Yakuza 6, Sega will be releasing a spruced up version of Yakuza 2 for PlayStation 4 this summer, which adds a brand new scenario among other features.

Gangster-brawling actioner Yakuza first debuted on the PlayStation 2 back in 2004 and has since spawned a number of sequels and spin-offs, including the Japanese-exclusive Yakuza: Kenzan and the zombie-mashing Yakuza: Dead Souls.
