Following the tease of a “big announcement” in a Tweet yesterday from Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, Yakuza 5 has since been confirmed to be in development.

The news slipped out of Japanese publication Famitsu rather than Nagoshi himself – who will be making the announcement in person at a SEGA press conference later today.

While this was the leading news, there were a few other interesting revelations to come out of the magazine. Firstly, Nagoshi has formed the Yakuza Studio – enforcing the fact that the action-RPG series is here to stay.

Backing this up, a sequel to PSP spin-off Yakuza Black Panther has also been revealed, and is due for release in spring 2012. It’s reported to be playable at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.

More details on both games will be made available when SEGA has its press conference later today.
