Acording to today’s MCV the Xbox 2 will be with us by Christmas time – both in the States and in Europe.

The story quotes “senior US sources” for their facts and goes on to say that third-party publishers are working for a Christmas release for their games, across all Western territories. This goes hand-in-hand with reports that EA had already begun development of the Xenon versions of their franchises for release around the festive period.

A lot won’t see this news as a surprise, as a lot of hints (ala the EA thing up ^ there) have been pointing to a 2005 release and Microsoft have always been keen to point out that they don’t want to let Sony get the jump on them again, as happened with the massive gap between PS2 and Xbox releases. Though nothing can be taken as fact as of yet, MCV is a respected trade paper and doesn’t usually fall foul of Spong-esque reporting.

Regardless, we’ll have to wait until E3 before we know for sure. The race for the next-generation is heating up, and we’ll bring you all we can at Pro-G.
