Update: Check out the XCOM 2 Reveal Trailer below.

Original report: XCOM 2 will launch for PC this November, 2K and developer Firaxis have announced. Mac and Linux versions are also in development, but there’s no word on console editions.

The sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, XCOM 2 steps 20 years into the future where humanity lost the war against the alien threat which has now established a new world order.

The secret XCOM organisation has been largely forgotten, but must trike back to reclaim control of Earth and free mankind.

Now XCOM is the invading force, and players will find themselves hampered by limited resources and must constantly evade the alien threat.

XCOM 2 will introduce gameplay features such as procedurally-generated levels, which promises to make each experience unique to the player. There will also be five updated soldier classes, increased soldier customisation, more alien types and evolved combat.

A deeper level of modding support is also promised.

“The feedback from the passionate XCOM community played an important role in the development of XCOM 2, driving us to push the visual, gameplay and replayability boundaries of what a strategy game can be,” said Jake Solomon, creative director of XCOM 2 at Firaxis Games. “We’re thrilled to implement long-time fan requested features such as procedural levels and modding support, as well as adding more of what makes XCOM great like new aliens, enemies and soldier classes.”

Look out for more info in the coming weeks.
