Xbox SmartGlass is now available to download on iOS.

The free app lets players use their iPad or iPhone to control their Xbox 360, including using their iDevice to control video playback, search Xbox LIVE and message their Xbox LIVE friends.

Head over to the App Store to snap it up.

SmartGlass also introduces ‘second screen’ functionality to Xbox 360, displaying relevant information about the movie they’re watching or game they’re playing.

Games already compatible with SmartGlass include Forza Horizon, Halo 4 and Dance Central 3.

The app replaces Microsoft’s previous ‘My Xbox LIVE’ app. If you’ve previously downloaded My Xbox LIVE on your iDevice, an update will automatically transform it to Xbox SmartGlass.

Xbox SmartGlass was released for Windows tablets and Android devices last month.

According to the iTunes description, Xbox SmartGlass for iOS lets you:

  • Navigate your Xbox 360 with swipe and tap
  • Use your phone’s keyboard to type to your Xbox 360
  • Browse the Internet on your Xbox 360 with full keyboard and zooming
  • Play, pause, fast forward, rewind, and stop videos and music on your Xbox 360
  • Search the full Xbox catalogue of music, video, and games
