Microsoft believes Xbox One is worth the $100 premium over PlayStation 4, claiming that its “better” games and online service mean it’s “going to have a better system” than Sony.

Discussing the price difference between the two systems with GameSpot, Xbox’s senior director of product planning and management Albert Penello said that “it’s up to us to prove that it’s worth $100 more. I think it is.”

“I think we do more,” he said. “I think our games are better. I think as people start to experience Kinect and see what it can do using voice, I think that’s better,” he added. “I think the ability to have an all-in-one system where you can plug in the TV, that’s better. I think we’ll have a better online service.

“I just believe that we’re going to have a better system.”

Microsoft’s console is set to cost £429 in the UK, with PS4 coming in at £349.

Microsoft’s Xbox One-exclusive line-up includes launch titles Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome and Dead Rising 3, with Kinect Sport: Rivals and EA’s Titanfall to follow early next year.

PS4, meanwhile, debuts on November 29 with Killzone: Shadow Fall, DriveClub and Knack, with Infamous: Second Son following in February. A range of indie titles, including Hotline Miami 2, Rogue Legacy and Volume will also see their console debut on PS4.

But the hefty price difference won’t hinder the system, Penello believes, adding that people just want to buy the “best thing”.

“$100, when you’re talking $400 vs. $500 [shrugs shoulders]. I don’t believe it’s going to be the deal-killer,” he says.

It was revealed last night that Xbox One’s launch date had been narrowed to “late November”. PS4 launches in the UK on November 29. A range of official PS4 bundles will also be available.
