The option to take screenshots on Xbox One won’t arrive until 2015, Xbox head Phil Spencer has confirmed.
Spencer announced the news in an interview with IGN, where he revealed that Xbox One’s December update will introduce fewer new features than previous updates due to the amount of consoles purchased over the holiday season.
“In December, it’s probably a time for us to pause for a little bit and settle just as all the new consoles are coming online,” he said.
He continued: “As we come back into the new year, we’ll see new stuff, and screenshots is on the list.”
But why has it taken Microsoft so long to implement screenshot functionality, particularly given the console’s ability to capture video?
“It’s a little more technically challenging than I thought,” Spencer added. “Two weeks ago, they think they’ve found a good solution for screenshots. They’re working on it. They know people want it. The team has a path to getting it done, and now it’s just prioritizing.”
He also confirmed that the team is working on reducing install times on Xbox One.
Microsoft revealed the first details on Xbox One’s November update earlier this week, confirming that background customisation would finally arrive alongside a brand new What’s On tab next month.
