Microsoft will announce a specific release date for Xbox One “later this summer”, the platform holder has revealed.

The news suggests that Microsoft may be gearing up to reveal Xbox One’s launch date during next month’s Gamescom, taking place in Cologne between August 21 and 25.

Microsoft announced a November launch window for Xbox One during last month’s E3 alongside a host of titles expected to be available at launch, including Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5 and Ryse: Son of Rome.

UK retailer GAME revealed earlier today that it was planning a “huge event” for the console’s launch.

A release during the first week of November would ensure Xbox One is there day one for key titles Call of Duty: Ghosts and Watch Dogs. But will Sony beat it to the punch with PlayStation 4?
