Xbox One’s February firmware update has finally rolled out to all users, introducing the previously announced battery indicator, storage management and USB keyboard support.

But – to the surprise of many – the update also removes the console’s overly-aggressive sharpening filter, making images appear softer and more natural.

The sharpening filter had been widely criticised by much of the community for making images appear overly-sharp.

Can’t see a difference? NeoGAF has a number of shots comparing Xbox One games before and after the update, with most agreeing that the update improves the console’s overall image quality.

As well as the headline functionality, the update also improves NAT detection, enhances Blu-ray quality and makes “significant performance and stability improvements”.

The next Xbox One update, which is expected to significantly improve Xbox One’s Friends and Party features, is due to release in early March.
