Gears of War 4 multiplayer is now cross-play between Xbox One and Windows 10 when competing in Social Quickplay, Microsoft has announced.

The decision to enable cross-platform multiplayer comes after extensive user testing conducted last year, which revealed that not only did Windows 10 and Xbox players have closely-matched results when comparing Average KD, Score and Kills per match based on skill ratings, but that the quality of matches on the whole improved.

Although the decision to make Social Quickplay a Cross-play playlist is designed to be permanent, the first few months will be a “trial period” during which player feedback will be closely monitored.

Core and Competitive play will remain locked to your specific platform.
