Xbox LIVE’s Silver membership level has been re-branded Xbox LIVE Free, Xbox Europe’s community manager Graeme Boyd has revealed.
Posting on Twitter, Boyd said: “Just been told that ‘Xbox Live Silver Membership’ will now officially be called ‘Xbox Live Free Membership’. The times they are a-changin…”
The change is in name only, with previous functionality and services unchanged.
The name change comes only a few weeks before the launch of Kinect, and is most likely an effort to more clearly represent the service to new Xbox 360 owners.
Free needs no explanation and everyone likes getting something for nothing.
