An editorial column within the American version of Official Xbox Magazine has revealed the title is to begin publishing a version of its coverdisc to download for a small fee on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

The virtual magazine will include the likes of trailers, videos and galleries for a cost of 200 MS points (£1.70), but it is the included demos that will be the likely cause of much controversy.

Demos on the physical coverdisc are sometimes made available for a short period before they appear on marketplace. With the new development, those demos could now appear on Marketplace with a fee, even though Gold users of the service generally feel they are entitled to primary access to new content on a service they already pay the highest price for.

Alternatively the ability to purchase the coverdisc might be seen as a cheaper way to get hold of early content without having to fork out for the magazine as well.
