Speaking to the BBC, a BT spokesperson has revealed that its upcoming IPTV service for Xbox 360 will only feature on-demand functionality and won’t provide access to live television. The standalone BT Vision service uses a set-top box which can both receive and record Freeview TV channels.
“The reason for streaming only on the Xbox is because currently the console does not have the capability for live TV or enough hard drive for practical downloading of content,” said the BBC spokesperson.
The cutdown BT Vision service for Xbox 360 will provide users will on-demand movies, near-live FA Premier League football matches and other content.
However, PS3 users can look forward to using their PS3 as a PVR with the soon to be released PlayTV. Announced at Games Convention 2007, PlayTV is a hardware and software solution featuring duel tuners and the ability to record, pause and do other fancy stuff with live TV.
