Playground Games’ long-awaited Fable reboot has been in development for a number of years now, but fans of the fantasy RPG franchise will have to wait even longer to get their hands on the new Xbox game.
Announced in an Xbox Game Studios update, head of Xbox Game Studios Craig Duncan explained that Playground Games needs “more time” to bring Fable to the quality that fans expect from the fantasy franchise.
Fable delayed until 2026
In the video, Duncan confirmed that Fable will no longer release in 2025 as previously stated. Instead, Playground’s new take on the comedic RPG series has been pushed until 2026. Despite the delay, Duncan explained that the game is “definitely worth” the years-long wait fans have had for the reboot.
“While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it’s definitely worth the wait,” Duncan said. “And I just have unequivocal confidence in the Playground team… and just what they’re bringing to Fable as a franchise, just think of the visuals of what you expect of Playground Games, plus amazing gameplay, British humour, Playground’s Albion…”
While the delay is a hit for Xbox, Duncan explained that the new game has the “most beautifully realised version of Albion” the franchsie has ever seen, and Xbox remains extremely confident in Fable as a quality title.
“I want fans to know that we do these things for the best of the games,” Duncan explained. “Ultimately, that results in the best games or the best games for the community.”
