According to Goldman Sachs, the price of the Xbox 360 could be higher than people are expecting (even though no one actually knows what the price of the new console will be). Goldman Sachs believes that Microsoft will sell approximately 3 million Xbox 360 consoles this year and that demand for the console will far exceed supply.

With the worldwide availability in the December quarter, likely strong initial demand, and the added cost of the hard drive, we might see a higher initial price.”

With no stiff competition from a new home console this year, a slightly higher than expected price probably won’t hurt sales too much, with early adopters likely to pick the console up at any price. Things may be different in Europe where Sony’s PSP will be fighting for Christmas sales. The PSP is released in Europe on September 1st, a few months before the expected November launch of the Xbox 360.
