According to a report by Reuters, the Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 in Japan in September. Sales data from Enterbrain reveals that during the four-week period the Xbox 360 sold 53,547 units compared to the PS3’s 33,071 units. This is the first time the Xbox 360 has outsold the PS3 in monthly sales since the PS3 hit the market.

Although seemingly good news for Microsoft and its Xbox 360 in Japan, sales aren’t as incredible as they first appear. The Wii managed sales of more than the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined, shifting 109,548 units during the same month. The DS managed an even more impressive 234,477 units, more than double that of the PSP (109,274 units).

Xbox 360 sales have been spurred on by the release of exclusive JRPGs Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery, and Microsoft will hope that The Last Remnant and Star Ocean: The Last Hope will have an even bigger impact.
