Early this morning (5.30 am in the UK, 1.30 pm in Japan) Microsoft held the Xbox Summit 2005 in Japan. The event was used to announce a number of new Xbox 360 titles, most of which are in development by Japanese development studios.

While reports from the event have been a little less spectacular than expected, the big news is the announcement of Ridge Racer 6 for the Xbox 360. Namco also announced Love Football, due in time for next years football world cup, and showed a new trailer for the previously announced Frame City Killer (which looks considerably better than it did at E3). While news of Ridge Racer on the Xbox 360 is undoubtedly big news, no details have emerged from the show to suggest that the game is going to be an Xbox 360 exclusive title.

Team Ninja announced that they have five games in development for the console: Dead or Alive 4, Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball 2, Code Cronus, Project Progressive, and a secret game. Project Progressive is apparently a new action title and the secret fifth game is not Ninja Gaiden 2. This has once again cast some doubt over the much anticipated game, with many people now believing that it will appear exclusively on the PlayStation 3 or go multi-platform.

The other big news that will please European gamers is the announcement that Winning Eleven (Pro Evolution Soccer) will appear on the Xbox 360 in autumn 2006. Again, this is unlikely to be an exclusive deal, but the series hasn’t been released on the Xbox before in Japan, with all recent games in the series only available on the PlayStation 2. Konami also revealed Rumble Roses XX (the sequel to the girl-on-girl wrestling game that featured lots of mud, and a baseball simulator that is unlikely to see a release outside of Japan.

That concludes the really big game announcements that are likely to appeal to us Europeans, but we’ll bring you more news from the Xbox Summit later today.
