An update on Xbox.com has revealed that the upcoming HD DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 will connect to the console with a USB cable.
“This new accessory will connect to the Xbox 360 console with a USB cable, enabling it to harness the power of the Xbox 360 console for the HD video outputs and digital surround sound,” reads Xbox.com.
The price of the add-on will determine its success, but Microsoft is keeping this close to its chest at the moment.
“Stay tuned. We decided to save that good news [cost of the add-on] for another day, but we’re clearly out to make this an affordable option for Xbox 360 owners,” said Albert Penello, Director of Global Marketing at Xbox.
It’s worth noting that this add-on will be for playing HD DVD movies only, and is not going to be used to deliver Xbox 360 games on the higher capacity HD DVD discs. We’ll keep you updated on HD DVD news as the week progresses.
